While it certainly had its ups and downs, 2018 will be a year to remember for everyone involved at ACS.
We started the year off in one of the worst ways possible – with a vehicle shortage and a massive $75,000 needed to fix that – but that need turned out to be an incredible journey. With the help of many in our community, we raised approx. $18,000 in just a few months. From there, the Goggin family generously donated $32,000, while Concours Mold Inc. contributed the final $25,000 we needed. Since then, we’ve unveiled our new accessible vehicle and have been using it to get people to where they need to go.
Beyond this incredible achievement, we had some amazing firsts this year. In June, we partnered with the Town of Amherstburg to host the first ever Amherstburg Active & Aging Well Expo. Nearly 200 people attended the inaugural event and saw first hand just how many services, businesses and organizations are here to help us as we age. We hosted town hall meetings alongside the Town of Amherstburg to better understand the needs of our aging population. Finally, after a one-year hiatus, we brought back the Fill-a-Backpack program and changed the format to make it more accessible to the people who rely on it.
There’s just so much to be proud of from this past year. Whether it’s delivering over 220 stockings to local seniors, getting holiday gifts to over 80 low-income children, purchasing a new accessible vehicle, or delivering tens of thousands of meals, everyone who contributes to ACS can be proud of the successes of 2018. Whether you donated to us, volunteered, shared information about us with friends and family, or even sent good wishes over social media, we cannot thank you enough!
Thank you for being involved in this incredible year, and we hope you stay involved in 2019. If your circumstances allow it, please consider making a donation before the year comes to a close and help us kick 2019 off to a great start! We cannot wait for what the next year brings.
